Bridges
Fixed Permanent Restoration, also known as a Bridge, is designed to replace missing teeth, help maintain the shape of your face, and alleviate stress on your bite.
A bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth, looks great, and bridges the gap where one or more teeth may have been. Your bridge can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials, and is cemented on abutment teeth for support. Once it is cemented, you can not take it out. It is a permanent restoration.
The success of any bridge depends on its foundation — the other teeth, gums, or bone to which it is attached. Therefore, it's important to keep your existing teeth, gums, and jaw healthy and strong.
It's crucial to floss around and under your bridge. The most convenient way to floss your bridge is using a water flosser; however, traditional string floss is the most effective way to remove all plaque, bacteria, and food particles. You will have to use a floss threader to get the string underneath your bridge and between the gums. If you don't take care of your bridge, you can suffer from gum disease, decay, and bridge failure.
